Spring in Our Step

In an effort to unplug over the weekend, Nick and I took advantage of the sunny spring weather and headed east to visit my family.

We met my cousin for breakfast on Saturday at the John Wright Restaurant in Wrightsville. The restaurant sits on the Susquehanna River within two miles of our wedding venue. (Although the water and bridge were much more visible on May 1st than on August 28th. Sadly, I forgot my camera, but trust me on this one.)

After breakfast we stopped at Mr. Steve’s in York. As if we need another hobby, we are now fully equipped to home brew beer. Mr. Steve, himself, described to us the differences between American wheats and German wheats and listed the pros and cons of dry yeasts and wet yeasts.

We then picked up my mother and sister and drove to Stauffers to stock up on herbs. Until we have a yard of our own to plant a garden, we’ll rely on our cute pot of parsley, cilantro, basil, rosemary, and chives.

The remainder of our leisurely evening included playing with the dogs, watching the birds nest above the deck, swinging on the hammock, snacking on guacamole, and sipping on piña coladas.

Lastly, as the sun set, we loaded our arms with trays of cupcakes (baked as an early Mother’s Day treat), graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate and followed the stepping stones to the backyard bonfire.

It was the perfect May Day. (Although we were certainly missing one family member!) How did you spend yours?

  1. Comment on your little pot of herbs: They grow!!!! My rosemary that started as a twig are now multiple over-3- foot- high bushes so be prepaed to transplant! Fresh herbs are the way to go when cooking though – enjoy!
