While We Wait

Our suitcase has been packed for two weeks. Our house is (mostly) spotless. The newborn napper is set up beside our bed. The freezer is stocked. Our cars are clean, and the car seat base is in place. And now we wait. Wonder what we’ve been doing to pass the time?

We go to the movies. Nick’s choice: Contagion. My choice: The Help. Both highly recommended. And there is definitely popcorn involved.

I blog from the glider in the nursery — easily my favorite room in the house.

Nick studies for the GMATs. While simultaneously seeking culinary inspiration, apparently.

We go out to eat. Both fancy dinners at restaurants like Bold and casual lunches at our favorite watering hole.

We cook at home. Specifically spicy dishes and sweets that may or may not induce labor. Then we eat by candlelight while listening to Pavarotti on Pandora.

We take a minimum of three walks per day.

We play games like Farkle and Scrabble.

We watch Mad Men. In fact, I don’t even want to admit how many episodes we’ve streamed in the past two weeks.

We savor the scent of pumpkin spice candles and the taste of chewy pumpkin cookies.

Mostly we just enjoy our little family of two while waiting with anticipation to become a family of three.

  1. I know how excited y’all must be, but it sounds like you’re making the most of your wait! Also, I’ve been listening to a Chopin station on Pandora while I cook lately, and I actually think the food tastes better. =)

  2. Sounds like you guys are having a very fun time waiting….it’s refreshing to hear (all of my friends seem to say “get this baby out!”). I’d love to snack on one of those pumpkin cookies right now! 🙂

  3. That is too strange! My hubby is studying for the GMAT too…actually right now which is why I am online!! He is taking the test Oct 1st…hope he does great and hope your hubby does great too! Congrats getting so much closer to baby time!!

  4. Oh, I’ve been thinking about you guys this week! Hope sweet baby Wiley decides to enter the world soon. This waiting sounds tough (even if you all are making the best of it!).
