Holding Down the Fort

I chose a good time to relive our Mexican honeymoon. Why? Because it helped to contain jealous feelings towards my family. This week my sister is visiting her boyfriend in Utah and my parents are visiting my brother in London!

Nick and I receive daily email updates and photos from across the country and across the pond. So far Laura and Stephen have hiked across Antelope Island and skied near Salt Lake City. Today and tomorrow they’re in Zion National Park.

And my parents are enjoying every bit of British culture on their first trip to fabulous London. My brother has a phenomenal view of the River Thames from his corporate flat, which intrigued Mom and Dad from the moment they arrived.

They’ve hit all the hot spots: St. Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Royal Albert Hall, the Tower of London, Houses of Parliament. Yesterday they visited Greenwich, and tomorrow they’re going to Liverpool. And I’m fairly certain Andrew has achieved favorite child status this week. He arranges activities and schedules tours and suggests meals for Mom and Dad while he works during the day. (Though my dad simply orders fish and chips at every pub.) Then Andrew surprises them with special events in the evening! Last night he took them to see Wicked, which is one show I’ve always wanted to see. And I know he has at least one more surprise up his sleeve.

While the Utah kids are exploring the great outdoors and the London crew is traipsing around the city, Nick and I are holding down the fort at home. Last weekend and this coming weekend we’re hanging out with the dogs. They’re a bit lost without my parents, but we’re doing our best to fill the void.

Where do you wish to travel this time of year?

  1. Zion is gorgeous this time of year… not too hot! We are sitting here for the next month, and then we head to Myrtle Beach with J’s family. It’ll be the perfect time to get away. I am SO over winter already!

  2. I hope your parents are having a lovely visit to London. The weather has turned milder in the last week or so, albeit slightly wet. Still, perfect for sightseeing. There is a nice restaurant on Kingley Street (behind Regent’s Street in the heart of London’s West End) called Shampers. Good food and wine and a cosy ambience.
