The Culinary Couple

Nick returned from training in Indianapolis just after midnight, missing his birthday by only an hour. But that didn’t stop Emily from singing “happy birthday” and Nick from blowing out his candles. Although they didn’t enjoy the delicious cake until the next day.

Crazy Devil’s Food Cake

• 2 cups sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 2/3 cup cocoa
• 1 cup butter
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• 2 teaspoons vanilla
• pinch of salt
• 3 cups flour
• 1 cup hot coffee

1. Add all ingredients to large mixing bowl. Do not stir until coffee has been added.
2. Beat 3 minutes.
3. Pour into greased and floured cake pans.
4. Bake 40 minutes at 325 degrees.

Peanut Butter Icing

1. Follow the directions on the back of confectioners sugar box.
2. Add peanut butter to taste.
