Week 8

HER PERSPECTIVE

Best Moment: The three-hour nap I took after work one night. Seriously. It was the best nap — under the covers of my bed and everything.

Symptoms: I had my first emotional breakdown this week. On the floor with my head buried in my bent knees. For no reason except I wanted Nick to go to the grocery store for animal crackers and honey wheat bread so I could make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He couldn’t find his keys – which is not uncommon, and I said, “Fine, I’ll go.” But then I collapsed to the floor as a dramatic reminder to my husband that I am pregnant and am growing a human being inside of me and I just want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He went. And I got my sandwich. And I promised not to do that again. (It really should come as no surprise that my first breakdown involved food.)

Cravings/Aversions: See peanut butter and jelly sandwich reference above.

What I Miss: My energy.

What I Can’t Wait For: To get my energy back.

Milestones: Nerve cells are connecting in Baby’s brain, forming primitive neural pathways. Baby is also forming webbed fingers and toes, eyelids, and a breathing tube that extends from the throat to the developing lungs. Baby is now the size of a kidney bean and is constantly moving and shifting. (No wonder I’m tired all of the time.)

HIS PERSPECTIVE

Best Moment: Being the hero of the whole peanut butter and jelly saga. See reference above.

Symptoms: Apparently lethargy is contagious because I’ve been having to take naps in the evening as well.

Cravings/Aversions: Craving sushi. Good thing I’m not the pregnant one.

What I Miss: My wife. She’s been a zombie this week.

What I Can’t Wait For: To be caught up with all of these blogs. Seriously, I don’t know how all of you bloggers out there keep up with it. Kudos to you.

Milestones: The fetus is starting to develop its first sensitivity to external stimuli. Even though I can’t see any changes in Emily’s belly, I can’t help but want to touch it.

  1. Wait…he can’t find his keys, so YOU’LL go. Why can’t he just borrow YOUR keys, and go anyway?

I can’t take the drama sometimes, even from this distance. Glad mine are 17 and 21. You’ll love the whole damn thing, though! Enjoy every minute…he/she will be graduating from high school in about four years!

P.S. Every time you mention Peanut, I think of Jeff Dunham! Love you all!
