Sankt Nikolaus Tag

Do you know the story of Sankt Nikolaus? You can read about the German tradition in our post from 2009 — the first year that I celebrated the holiday with the Wiley family. It’s such a fun tradition and one that we will continue with Samuel. In fact, St. Nick visited our house last night!

He left sweets for Mommy and Daddy.

And pacifiers for Samuel.

True, the little guy won’t remember his first St. Nicholas Day, but I do think he enjoyed his treat.

What unique holiday traditions does your family observe?

  1. I had every intention of doing this Monday night, but I totally forgot (even after our priest reminded us on Sunday)! Looks like St. Nick brought you guys some great gifts!

  2. I suppose our only semi-unique one is oddly not our heritage. We make rice pudding on Christmas Eve that has one nut in it, and whoever finds the nut gets a small prize (usually a chocolate bar). It’s a Danish tradition that my aunt learned while studying abroad in Denmark, and we’ve done my whole life.

  3. An old roommate of mine in college celebrated this. Her parents always sent a little package to her while we were at school. It’s such a sweet thing!
