Molly passed away 2 1/2 years ago. We still miss her dearly. She was the sweetest, most lovable, and protective dog. She was our first family dog and Dad’s best buddy. We brought Sadie into the family when Molly was about six-years-old. It took a few weeks for Molly to even acknowledge the rambunctious ball of fur, but they grew into cuddly sisters. Sadie was lost for awhile after Molly passed away, and her independent nature intensified. She’s stubborn and hyper, but we love her.
A few months ago, my parents decided that it was time to add another four-legged family member. We returned to Janet — both Molly’s and Sadie’s breeder — to meet “Pink Diamond” and “Rainbow” and “Purple.” I was instantly attracted to the light soft hair and petite features of Purple, but we discovered through Janet’s temperament testing that she was a wild one! So Mom and Dad chose Rainbow — the one that Janet and her family adored.
Rainbow’s name is now “Layla.” (Despite my efforts to preserve the name for my future dog, I eventually gave up the fight.) At first, Sadie treated Layla just as Molly had treated her several years ago; however she quickly snapped out of it. Big sister was teasing little sister with the ducky and frisbee by the second night.
So far Layla is a typical puppy. She wants to nuzzle her head between your arm and a pillow one minute and wiggles onto the floor to nibble on the table leg the next.
I’ve decided that the Rowlands’ pet order is quite similar to the Rowlands’ children order. First came Emily and Molly — well-mannered, patient, and easygoing. The wild ones came next. Andrew and Sadie are the trouble-makers and the risk-takers. Lastly are Laura and Layla. The verdict is still out on the two of them 🙂
