HER PERSPECTIVE
Best Moment: It’s official! The doctor confirmed our pregnancy with a blood test on January 25th. Now I can just relax and stop analyzing every ache, twitch, and cramp.
Also, we’re so proud (and surprised, really) that we were able to keep our news a secret despite spending an entire weekend with family. Within minutes of arriving at my parents’ house on Friday night, my dad offered us both a beer. I took one – I knew I had to or everyone would get suspicious. (Because, you know, I never turn down a beer.) Of course, I didn’t drink it – Nick did.
The next day we traveled to Lancaster to celebrate Grandma Martin’s 80th birthday. Everyone was sipping wine when we arrived, but I grabbed a bottle of water instead. Sister-in-law Kirsten called me out before I had even removed the cap from the bottle! Which meant I had to order a drink at dinner. Which meant Nick had to drink it for me. Yes, I suspect he’s going to make out pretty well over the next few weeks.
Symptoms: Apparently only 75% of women experience morning sickness (or afternoon or evening) when pregnant. Perhaps I’ll continue to be one of the lucky 25%? Though a little bit of nausea would provide more proof that this is all really true.
Cravings/Aversions: Annie’s macaroni and cheese. I may be able to eat an entire box in one sitting.
What I Miss: Beer.
What I Can’t Wait For: Now that we know this is real, we’re anxious to start seeing some physical changes.
Milestones: The nose, mouth, and ears are beginning to take shape this week, and Peanut is about the size of a lentil bean.
HIS PERSPECTIVE
Best Moment: We purchased an Xbox Kinect and Dance Central! I’ve was up at 7am on Sunday morning doing the “man swag” and bustin’ a move to Bel Biv DeVoe and Salt-n-Pepa… classic. We definitely should have gone to an ’80s disco to celebrate Grandma’s 80th!
Symptoms: Flatulence, though I’m only 25% sure that this is related to what’s been going on lately.
Cravings/Aversions: Beer. Guinness Draught to be more precise. It’s light in calories, high in taste, and oh so delectable.
What I Miss: Annie’s macaroni and cheese — Emily’s not sharing, and I’m not going to mess with a hungry pregnant woman.
What I Can’t Wait For: For “Peanut” to be the size of a peanut, it just sounds funny otherwise.
Milestones: The itty bitty heart is beating! If Peanut is the size of a lentil bean, then the heart would be the size of a grain of coarse sea salt. Right?
You guys are so cute! Nice job with hiding things – I think we told our families by 6 weeks lol.
I love the his and her perspective! I’m terrible at keeping secrets, very impressive.
I’m 100% sure Nick has flatulence regularly regardless of “what is going on”!
You know your brother-in-law far too well!
I’m pretty sure one of the first things I’ll miss when/if I get pregnant someday will be beer too!
My friends and I always joke that we’ll know instantly when the other is pregnant b/c we never refuse a glass of wine or a beer! Way to keep it a secret!
