Letter to Nora: Four Months

Dear Baby Girl,

You are four months old and still as sweet as can be. You are my little princess, my pumpkin, my sweet pea, and you light up our days with your big blue eyes and your beautiful smile.

4months1

You’ve learned lots of new tricks this month. You can now roll over from back to belly and belly to back. Though you sometimes get stuck halfway between the two. You love the jumperoo and the activity mat, and you can now grab and shake and spin the toys on both. Sam loves it when you “play.” Just wait until you start to reach for his cars and trucks!

You are so strong, and you seem to grow a little bit taller every day. Now when I try to burp you at my shoulder, you use your legs to bounce off my lap. You love to sit upright and stand, and you don’t want to miss a thing. And there are lots of things to entertain you in this house!

Lucy likes to sniff and lick your head, and Sam likes to play “peek-ee-boo” with you. You love to dance around the house with Mommy, and you think it’s hilarious when Daddy sings to you.

You are quite the chatterbox and love to tell stories just like your brother. I can’t wait to hear the conversations between the two of you!

4months2

You have started to use your mouth to explore your surroundings — your hands and feet, blankets, balls and rattles, our fingers. You still produce a lot of drool and often go through four or five bibs per day. Sam is constantly informing us that “Baby Nor-wah spit up!”

You are no longer content to sit in your bouncy seat during mealtime. You would much rather sit in my lap and try to grab my plate. Twice you nearly pulled it off the table, and I now have to be careful where I put my fork and knife. I think it’s time to set up the highchair and give you a seat of your own at the table! And we’re already looking forward to giving you your first bites of “real” food.”

4months5

You continue to nurse at least six times per day and still wake up between 3am and 4am for a “snack.” Otherwise you sleep soundly from about 8:30pm until 7:30am. You easily took the bottle this month while Mommy and Daddy were away at a wedding, which is good, because we have several events this summer that will require you to bottle feed.

Naps are still hit or miss. You often take two 30-minute naps in the morning, and we try really hard for one long nap in the afternoon. But you often wake up after 20-30 minutes and scream to be held. And you can no longer sleep through the commotion of our house, which means your crib is really the best place to get your rest. We’ll keep working on it. You do, however, love to sleep in the Ergo and the car seat.

You have perfected the pouty face and have learned how to use it to get what you want. You cry if you can’t see me or if I stop feeding you too soon. And you scream when Sam roars like a dinosaur in your face. (I don’t blame you for that one!) You rub your eyes when you’re sleepy and kick your legs and squeal when you’re excited. But mostly you do a whole lot of smiling.

4months4

You have just barely outgrown the length of your size 3-month clothing, and we recently moved into size 2 diapers. At your four-month well visit, you measured 25.5 inches (75th percentile) and weighed 11 pounds 12 ounces (6th percentile). You are a peanut! The doc actually wants to see you back in a month to check your weight. He’s not too concerned because you’re strong and developing right on track, but he suggested I feed you more often and for longer periods of time. Not an easy task with your brother constantly distracting us!

You attended your first wedding this month and were completely mesmerized by the music and the lights. Aside from the bride, you were the most beautiful person there! In fact, Sam often says “Baby Nor-wah is boo-ful,” which completely melts my Mommy heart.

4months6

Nora, you are an absolute joy. I look so forward to your smiles and coos every morning, and I can’t get enough of those perfectly round cheeks. We just adore you!
