Not only have the Olympics been keeping me up way past my bedtime, but I find myself weaving the games into nearly every conversation that I have — with family, co-workers, random sales associates at the mall. I have clearly developed an obsession. Granted, I’ve always enjoyed the spirit and thrill of the Olympics, but I don’t recall ever being able to detail race times of runners and weights of gymnasts or to quote results from previous swimming meets. I have a story to tell about every athlete. Whatever NBC broadcasters tell during breaks in competitions, I later regurgitate to aforementioned audiences. Thank goodness the closing ceremonies are just around the corner. I’ll soon be able to return to normal sleeping patterns and fill silences with things like food and politics.
